Default Putter at 2500 rpms

I own a 2004 dodge neon sxt 2.0. Recently I was driving and the check engine light came on and so I turned it off then on again and the motor wouldnt got ovem2500 rpm no matter what. I put son bg44k gas treatment and it seemed to fix the problem. Although I took it for spin right after it still did it untill I turned it off and it magically acted as if it was brand new and the engine actually let me go over 2500 rpm. Now it is doing it again. Any clue to what is going on or what I could do to fix this?? Please and THANKYOU!!!!

You post at 10PM, and have expected an answer by 8AM the following morning...?

The check engine light came on, so, what codes are there? Sounds like a sensor ATM, but we need the codes to be sure what it is.

If you want to guess and throw parts at it, I had the same symptoms, and out of the habit of driving carburated vehicles, I just replaced the fuel pump. Got lucky, that was what it was. It was good that I did anyway, as there was 1/2 inch of sludge in the bottom of the tank from the 243,000 miles that it has been driven.
