2gn Neons don't have a MAFS; they have a MAPS. You can test the coil with a multimeter.

Wow. I didn't know we have a speed density system... Any way to convert it to MAF?

Yes, the Mass Air Flow Sensor. The said I could try cleaning it. Not really sure what it is, or where its at... I'll do some checking... Drove the car today and again it seemed to have no problems... Keeping my fingers crossed

Whats the difference between MAF and MAP? Do they have the same purpose? Should I clean the MAP?

Thanks for all your help darth. I read up on the link on the coil. If the sputtering comes back, the coil will be the next thing to be replaced.

MAP is Manifold Absolute Pressure, it measures the pressure inside the manifold rather than airflow (MAF- Mass Air Flow). MAF gives you much better performance options than MAP, at least on older systems. Not too sure how the newer systems stack up against MAF. As far as I know, you can't clean the MAP sensor, all you can do is replace it.

So far so good... Still no sputtering
