Well, I can't say I haven't had my share of problems, Mother's mechanic changed trans fluid with dex-III, and led to the enevitable at about 89,000 miles or so, that was expensive $2800. 3 pair of rear wheel bearings, bushings, motor mounts, 2 oe radiators- when I got it, I bypassed the trans cooler completely-no more problems with that. Currently running a $26.00+ free shipping ebay radiator from a manual trans car- 70,000 miles and still holds water. My recent evap leak WAS actually the gas cap-no kidding.

I'm going to check the EVAP lines once more, and then if it still isn't gone, the gas cap is what would be left. Just came out of the blue...go figure.
I've replaced many things on my Neon too, however, they were wear and tear items that previous owners didn't replace. The only real problems I've had are the transmission oil pump going out and needing a new solenoid pack.

I have actually decided that the selonoid packs on dodge fwd autos are general maintenance items. 2 on the Neon, 1 on my G Voyager, at least 1 on every other DodgeFWD we have owned. Pair of rear struts, Driver seat from junkyard, serp belt tensioner assembly- another brilliant engineering design- $300+ part from the dealer. Lots of little things, that if you do them as they come along, it isn't as big of a hit compared to letting it all go and then junking the car because you don't want to sink $4,500 into it to keep it on the road. The body cancer has started to creep in, I just found a fist sized hole on the rocker panel under the rear driver side door. Fastest rotting vehicle I have had besides my '72 Jeep pickup- that thing, I swear, was rusting away on the assembly line.
