Hi i have an 2003 R/T with 78k on it and very recently i have had a sound coming from my motor the just doesn't sound like a neon. It sounds like my valve are going to blow through my valve cover. ive been reading alot of the engine knock posts and other noise posts but none have really covered the sound im hearing. my neon has always had slap and ticking and been all neon sounds til this...... im wondering if the lifters are shot and how could i check them but im also worried that its a rod bearing

Well one backyard one free day and i diagnosed the issue to be all my lifter/rockers were stuck on the intake side and a couple on the exhaust side. just need to buy a set for both sides replace and i should have a solid running R/T again.........

 

For what it's worth, my '01 has done the clickety-clack thing when cold since I bought it 11 years ago. Now at 155K, it sounds the same.
