Ok so I have a 2001 neon that will throw p1390 after the motor warms us. I have checked and rechecked the timing and it is good... any ideas? I am stumped.
perhaps a failing timing belt tensioner. as it warms up, it could be weakening, causing that particular code to throw. only other thing I can think of to check is make sure the dowel on the cam gear hasn't sheared, and since the cam position sensors are so cheap and relatively easy to get to, that might be worth replacing for the hell of it. perhaps it is going bad in such a way it's not throwing a code, but causing a faulty reading elsewhere. that's all ive got at this point.
Camshaft sensors sometimes have problems when they get warm, If you had a scantool you could monitor the signal, but without one it gets a little hairy.
