Bent valves
I can only see in the pistons that 8 valves hit but i took the head to a machine shop and they said that i had 8 bent valves. When i got there they told me that also the other 8 were bent. I smell something fishy going on
You didn't say what kind of car you have so I'll use mine as an example.
04 Dodge Neon
2.0L SOHC
Rockauto.com
Exhaust Valves at $10.89 each for a total of $87.12 for 8
Intake Valves at $8.37 each for a total of $66.96 for 8
Valve Guides at $3.85 each for a total of $61.60 for 16
Pack of 16 Valve Stem Seals for a total of $21.79
Total cost of Valve replacement $237.47
If the shop is charging you $210 just to replace the valves but not the guides and stem seals then they are ripping you off.

Then your going to the wrong shop, out here in San Diego the shops charge you what the part cost. They don't mark them up where they get you is the 90 hr labor. I know shops that let you buy your own parts and they'll install them and just charge you labor.
You will generally be able to get parts cheaper on the internet/RockAuto than you will get from a parts store (which is where shops get their parts from). I haven't ever had a shop mark-up parts on me, especially if I am paying them to replace them on my car. Then again, I tend to buy my own parts and simply pay for labor if it's something I don't want to deal with.
