Default 2000 Dodge Neon with PROBLEMS

I have a 2000 Dodge Neon with 195,000 miles on it. This morning while going to work it seemed to cough and almost stall and then cleared up and I went on to work. This afternoon I was barely able to leave the parking lot. My car was wheezing and gasping and had no power when in gear, when not in gear it is fine, idling a little fast but ok. It acted like it was getting no fuel but eventually cleared itself and I was able to get home. I have recently ( 2 weeks ago) replaced the plugs and wires and am wondering what the problem could be now. I was thinking it could be the timing belt or a plugged fuel filter or something. HELP! I need advice and direction here.

The first thing I thought of when I started reading your post was the ignition cable or spark plug.
There is a way to test it but it's not harmless. Let's assume there is a problem with a cable or a spark plug and the motor runs on 3 pots>Start it>Take an insulated pliers>Grab a plug connector and pull it off the spark plug while the motor is running. Keep on doing it till you hear a difference.

When you pull the first one and there is no difference you found it. If the motor is gonna stall put it back on and go to the next one, because then the motor is running on 2 cylinders which probably doesn't work anyways. The motor probably dies.

That's a way to find a dead cable or spark plug, BUT, it's freakin' dangerous. We're talking about, what, 10000-15000Volts??? You need an insulated tool to pull them off, don't touch with bare skin the car body and don't do it bare foot in the rain. Wear boots and leather gloves. And have somebody around you who can turn off the car when you get poked.
Or turn the car off between the steps.

its fuel related if your wires and plugs are new....fuel filter(wich is the pressure regulator) $60 - $100 or its the injectors. Or worse the pump...a clogged cat will drop your power and suffer the engine. is it an automatic or stick??
