Default Questions for mechanic guys

I know some of you on here are mechanics, so I would like to ask you a few questions.

How hard is it to be a mechanic?
How long have you been a mechanic?
How were you trained? Or what courses did you take?
Do you get pay well?
Do you like your job?

Right now I will just find a factory job, but I would consider to be a mechanic in the future.

This is a little off topic, and it does not belong in this section of the forum.
So, Moderator. Move it to a different section if you like.

While i'm NOT a mechanic (Rookie Hobbyist @ best), so i can't really give you the Ins & Outs, there are some really good schools out there for that field, one of which being practically in my backyard.
http://unoh.edu/
There are colleges dedicated to just automotive.
most vocational/trade schools have a program.

UNOH(Local to me) has majors in Auto/Diesel, High Performance Motorsports( complete with a full race shop, several haulers, and they own the local 1/4 mi Dirt track), Alternative Fuels, Ag Equipment
Then there's places like Wyotech, some others I'm sure you've seen commercials for on tv. if you like/are good @ autobody, there's a great body/restoration Program @ McPherson College in McPherson, KS.
(recently Featured on "Chasing Classic Cars" on Velocity(tv channel), and Jay Leno Sends some of his cars there)
http://www.mcpherson.edu/autorestoration/

so first off, where are you located?

I work for Dodge, even tho I went to school for Ford. I drive Toyota. and I am sure MoparKyle makes more money than me.

in terms of money, this is a skilled trade, basically, more you work, more you make. Wether you work for Toyota, Honda, Ford, Germans, or independent All make and models, they are all the same, the work is always there... . Cars breaks down, and ppl have to fix them.

anyway, as mentioned, like anything else, you have to start your journey with school nowaday, and do well in school.
you go to school, get a part time low paying job as a start in a shop/dealer, and hopefully when you are done with school, the shop will promote you, or take that experience, and look elsewhere.

cars nowaday are ridiculously screw up on eletronic part, as well as repair are so expensive, customer have very high expectation.

On the other hand, if you have to invest into schooling anyway, you might want to explore all other fields before you make ur decision. The Job is not rocket science, everything is learned thru experience and hard work, JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE.

Do I like my Job? sometimes I do, Sometimes I don't. But it paid my bills.

how old are you? btw

I'm 23. I graduated from high school, but did not go to college.
I'm very good at computer actually, but I don't want to continue my education.
I just want to work. Maybe I train to be a mechanic someday.

Most dealerships will want you to go to school first. You might find a few little hole in the wall independent shops that will let you work for them with no schooling.

Sure, Kyle. For this, I would go back to the school, but I train to be a mechanic only. I don't want to take extra classes.

Yeah, there are plenty of vocational schools out there for just that. I would take to a mechanic in person if you are considering the field, I can't really convey my personal experiences over the internet very well.
