Default P0740

I have a 2004 Neon 2.0L ...
While driving the check engine light came on,didnt seem to notice any drivability symptoms.
Had codes pulled, came up with P0700 and P0740
I know to focus on the 0740 code.
I cleared them and took it for a ride, seemed to drive fine, shifted fine.Repeatedly drove it all day around town and at speeds of 45 ,no problems.
Then after driving awhile it started shifting weird.Stuttered leaving a stop and then seemed to slip or jump outta gear, engine revved, then went back into gear ..seemed to get worse as i drove.Light didnt pop back on yet.
i parked it...tried researching it online but cannot come up with a proper way to diagnose...some say it doesnt have a TCC solenoid, some say it does and thats the problem.
Wondering what you folks think?

TIA
Joe

Your car does has a TCC so, it must has a solenoid or something to control it.
The solenoid is bolted on top of the valve body, the connector is behind the trans deep stick tube on a 3 speeds Neon.
On a 4 speeds, it's not there. Someone told me it's built into the trans solenoid pack.

Hey there - had the exact same issue. Replaced the transmission shift solenoid or solenoid pack (different stores have names for it) as well as the input and output sensors. Really easy, took about an hour or so. I also changed the trans filter and refilled the tranny- not a flush though.

Fixed the issue, but now I am looking at reflashing the PCM due to weird shift points.

I think the solenoid is your issue - do you hear clicking/ticking at all when you shift into gear or when it shifts?

Can you describe your weird shifting point? I may have the same problem with my trans. I have replaced the solenoid pack, with input/output sensors. It did not cure the problem.

I do think his problem is with the solenoid pack. Many people have got the same code.

I remember now.
The solenoid pack has four solenoids.
Together they control all the forward gears, and the TCC.

For the TCC:
Sol Underdrive is on, Sol Overdrive is on, Sol 2-4 is off, Sol L/R is on.

A clicking or ticking noise when shifting into a gear is completely normal btw. Most people describe it as a "buzzing" noise.
