Bikers wrap their pipes so, their legs won't get burned.
For turbo cars, they wrap their exhaust manifolds to reduce the engine bay temperatures = cooler intake air. Also, wrapped the exhaust manifolds help their turbo spool a little quicker/faster (There is a reason for that).
There are also disadvantages of wrapping your exhaust manifold though.
It will shorten the life your exhaust manifold.
It can also melt if it get too hot, and do damages to the engine.
Racers don't care about their exhaust manifolds because they swap them out after each race.
I said that is not to scare you. Many people have already wrapped their exhaust manifolds, and it worked well for them. If you never try, how would you know? I like cars a lot too, and I see that in you.
A safer way to heat shield the exhaust manifold is to spray some type of paints/chemicals on them. I don't remember whats they are called.

Another cheap mod is to install a hood scoop on the front of your car. It will help cool down the engine bay temperature a little.
Or you can use it to get more power out of your engine.
As you go faster, air will rush in there and act like a small turbo.
Your engine will get air from there of course.
It can also increase throttle response, because air take little time to get into your engine instead of air travel in a long tubes/filtered system.
Don't put a huge hoot scoop on the front though. It doesn't look good on our cars.

It actually does what it's supposed to. I live in central Florida and drive 30 miles each way to work. Well, for half the year or so, it's in the 90's and humid. I have a short ram intake and about halfway through my drive home from work, the heat was a huge power killer. The scoop draws the hot air out and I didn't have any issues with the heat after that except for a few 110* days.

Buddhaman- if you use header wrap and a short ram intake it wont get hot or wet like CAI. I like it. I like your hood scoop, but its too small and looks like the back is open. is there a hole in the hood? because this spring Im gonna cut a peace of my hood out and by a cheap hood scoop thats for decore and bolt it on.
