I hate it when I'm changing someone's oil and the last person tightened the sh*t out of the oil filter..

-That's a big ol' bingo there! Sometimes it seems like they used an impact wrench on the filter.

i've been guilty of that myself. First time i changed my own, i used one of those cap wrenches to put it on... when i went to take it off a few months later, i had to hammer a screwdriver all the way through that Orange Can to get enough torque to get it to turn off. and that was one of the frams w/the black grippy stuff on the bottom.

now it's just hand tight, then a slight bit more. comes right off by hand. no wrench needed.

How many millimeters is size A?
I'm talking about the oil filter wrench/cup. It is use to open/tighten the oil filter, or oil filter housing.
You can tighten it up by hand, but it is not secure enough.
I use a 64mm x 14 flutes for our Toyota Camry.

Thank you both of you.
I take it your camry uses a cartridge filter? their housings are about the only time you'll really need a special wrench/cup thingy.
these cars are a basic spin on filter, excessively easy to access. getting the car up far enough to get under is the hardest part. once down there, it just hanging there in open space. same arrangement on my buddy's Vibe (toyota 1zzfe engine)

A lot of people don't seem to know that the required amount of torque for oil filters and drain plugs is not infinity. A "snug" is all they need.

For some reason there was a time in the late 90's when oil filters & oil rain plugs were falling off/coming loose etc. Then all the oil change places started over-cranking things down, walmart & Jiffy lube's were the worst as they had been sued plenty for locked up motors during that time when insurance companies were smart and not covering the damages.

Avoid walmart services at all costs if you can, no offense if anyone works there just my exp.

Kyle, you are going to make less if all of us change oil by ourselves.
