The lower psi ratings are for 1st gen, the 2nd gen are higher like Darth stated. Can you put up a pic/link for the FPR you got?

1st gen Neons fuel pressure regulator is 49 psi. thats why it wont work on ours neons. I mighta got a lil too exited when i typed "no more piston slap" it just quited it down alot., BUT it is still there only heard it tonight when its 28 degrees and wind chill of 11. but i am running 2000 chrysler neon injectors on my 2002 dodge neon. there rated at 44 - 54 psi and there working on a FPR rated at 54 psi. ( 2001-2003 neons injectors are rated at 53 - 63 psi)

yea i meant 44. typo. i wasnt having any fuel related problems.. just low Mpg. not real low tho. your fuel pressure regulator is also the fuel filter. sorry man. it is a replaceable item. you change your oil filter and air filter, so you dont change your fuel filter?? also, 2000 dodge neon injectors will run on the 2002 to 2003 models.

You are wrong...still. Changing your FPR didn't get rid of, or quiet down, any piston slap. Piston slap, as already pointed out, is caused by loose tolerances. Fuel does not make your rings or cylinders bigger or smaller. You keep talking about 2000 MY injectors for your car and then quote me on the difference for 2001-2003 Neons. Does your 2002 Neon not fall into that range? What am I missing? 2002 ≠ 2000? Why are lower PSI injectors from the wrong year car the proper ones for your car?

You weren't having fuel related problems, but chaning your FPR yielded a "big gain" in MPG? Does a fuel pressure regulator no longer have anything to do with the fuel system? You are also wrong in that the FPR is the fuel filter.
Since you asked me about not changing the fuel filter: Dodge says it is a non-serviceable item. If you or anyone else took their Neon to a shop to have their car worked on because they don't know how or are unable to, the fuel filter will NEVER be changed unless the FPR is changed. That being said, you can indeed just get the filter and change only that. It's something like $20 IIRC.

Anything else?

Fair enough. I have no problem being proven wrong. For once in this thread, you provided correct information. If you pride yourself on everything you know about your car from a Haynes manual...

Not to jump on a "Lets bash arnonefrank13" bandwagon,
BUT,
anymore the Haynes and Chilton manuals are EXACTLY THE SAME.
only difference being the cover.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilton_Publishing_Company
"In 2001, Nichols sold the do-it-yourself automotive print manuals to Haynes Publishing Group (publishers of Haynes Manuals)"

I know when i was looking at them for my Neon, and my buddies Vibe, for both cars, it didn't matter which brand(Haynes/Chilton), the innards of the book were identical carbon copies of each other. same font, same pics, same page numbers, etc.

im not sure.. its for a SRT-4 like 300 some pages. I've had 3 neons in my life and i really like the 2002 neon. I've put countless hours into my car, so I know alot about it. I've also put countless hours on my womens car ( 2003 ford focus). I dont worshup the haynes manual. I do ALOT of internet research and reading books and yet I can't spell very well. grammer 2.
