Default Crank Position Sensor

Had he engine light come on last night....car started running crappy.
Parked it.
Today, car ran fine...engine light still on.
Later in the day engine light went out.
I had a friend check for a code and found:
P0340 Crank Position Sensor A-Bank 1 circuit malfunction.

So...what's involved in replacing, fixing, or cleaning the "sensor"... ( and where the hell is it? ;-)

Thanks

I'd check the wiring first since it's a circuit (generally, wiring) malfunction. The crank sensor is on the front, bottom driver's side of the engine.
