ok, so I managed to fiddle the IOD fuse in and guess what... the radio NOW switches off correctly, I'm off work for a few days now so I'll be testing, as an asside as its been pretty cold she's been starting fine, so I've prooved the battery and connestions etc.

I think your right its the radio, I'll keep my eye on it, and will swap the radio out, or try pulling fuses 3 &4

btw looks like with the IOD out the boot is deadlocked so the key wont turn manually
with the IOD needed to be in, thank goodness you can get to the boot via the inside seats

so looks like this is a solved thread

sometimes asking questions and investigting is far better than just throwing parts and money... as it is, the fix cost me... errmm nothing
