I wanted to know how to replace the O.E.M. face guages with an aftermarket face guage?
If so, would I have to remove my dashboard or anything else of that importance?
You do have to take the gauge cluster out and take it apart to do the faces. I did my 98 in about an hour. I had some problems with the face being a little warped and the needles hanging on the face. I just took some water soluble glue and stuck it down.
Since mine is an 04, unscrewing some of the dash and taking off my face guage would it mess with my airbags. Also I wanted to know if you can give me details on removable since you have already done it yourself. But.. Thanks for the previous information.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal for 15 minutes before you start with the gauges. I am not sure of the specifics on the 04, but just take a look, its not that hard to figure out which screws you need to take out to get at the cluster and there should be 4 that hold the cluster in. On mine there was 4 allens that hold the clear cover on the cluster and then I just slipped the faces over the needles and put it back together. I just wired the positive wire into the parking lights and the ground to ground.
thx for the help casper, appreciate it... now just to see if I don't mess my car up
No problem. Its not that hard, just make sure you take your time when you put the face on, its a pain to get over the needles and you need to move them to different positions to get them to slip over. Also make sure you solder the connections real good and tape the bare wires good.
