Default 2003 dodge neon help

My sister has a 2003 dodge neon with the 2.0L in it, when she was driving it, it started to rumble from the engine so she pulled over and got it towed to the mechanic. Mechanic thought it was plugs and coils but after those were swapped he told us there was no compression in cylinder 2. The car only has 60,000 kms on it and oil changed often. If anyone's got advice on what to do on the issue please comment. Any engine pros out there? Easier to rebuild or should an engine swap be done?

I would start by getting a second opinion if you are using a mechanic who is guessing,

Did the mechanic pull the inspection plug from the timing belt cover and make sure the timing belt was still there? I can see that the car has low miles, but we're still talking about a 12 year old car and bent valves as the result of a broken timing belt would be the most likely cause of "no compression".

That.

A rumble could be lots of things. Same for the compression loss. Bad head, bad gasket, bent valves, off timing, etc...
