Default 2005 Neon cutting out and runnnig rough

I bought a used 2005 Neon about 4 month ago. The first 2 months it ran fine but soon after that it started to miss every once in awhile. As time went on it started to happen more often Now every time I get in the car it starts ok but after about 10 to 15 minutes it starts to cut out and will not go over 55 MPH. I have to pull over several times and shut it off after about the 3rd to 4th time it runs fine for the remainder of my hour and a half drive to work. It happens again on my home from work.

I noticed that all three wires in the plug that connects to the coil had been spliced using butt splices that were crimped poorly, I replaced all of the splices but that had no effect. Any suggestion would be great.

No I haven't. Was looking for suggestions and a place to start. I will try that this week end but if the plugs were bad why would it start working after awhile? I am not much of a mechanic but if told what to do i can usually figure it out.

was it throwing any check engine codes by doing the ignition key dance?

Just saying, Plugs an wires are cheap fixes, you pull a plug an the center electrode tips rounded off with almost double the gap required, time to spend a $1.57

The check engine light is on so I am sure if I had it checked out it has stored codes.I will have Auto Zone pull the codes when I get new plugs. Thank You.

Turns out that it was a crank shaft sensor causing the problem. Changed that out and the problem went away.
