05 Neon throttle "sticking"

05 Neon throttle "sticking"
Long story short, this is an issue I've noticed ever since purchasing this car. When the pedal is pushed almost all the way to the floor/all the way down, the throttle tends to "stick" and slowly applies more throttle even when my foot isn't on the gas. It isn't WOT, but it'll keep accelerating unless I pop the throttle once or twice.
It's pretty rare I ever have to use the gas that aggressively, but this seems a little dangerous just in case anything ever were to happen. Maybe something to do with the throttle body? Or the throttle position sensor.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Side Notes
- gas pedal is a little squeaky, figured WD-40 would help but I haven't got any at the moment
- if the car is shut off while this occurs and you try starting it up again it will start revving fairly quickly while in park or any other gear, including neutral

Inspect in cabin for obstructions around the throttle pedal & it's cable connections through the firewall to the throttle body. Look for balled up mats, carpet, debris, cable kinks, cable pinches, breaks in the cable covering that would let moisture in & rust things up.
If all that looks ok, remove the throttle cable at the throttle body & check for the problem. If it's still present, the problem is still between the pedal & the throttle body connection point.
If the pedal movement is ok with the throttle cable disconnected, inspect the throttle plate for movement. It's common for the throttle plate diameter & bore to stick from deposits. Clean as needed using a plastic safe spray cleaner, like CRC QD, or MAF spray cleaners & lint free cloths.
Then before reinstalling, reconnect the throttle cable & check movement to make sure the problem has cleared & let us know what you find.
EDIT: If you find throttle plate deposits are the problem, has the PCV valve been changed as scheduled & are you using the specified service grade engine oil & using a good brand of fuel, like a "Top Tier"? Here is a list of top tier fuels. http://www.toptiergas.com/licensedbrands/
