Default Dodge Neon 2000 138+miles oil light on at idle

Okay so I've had my oil light come on while coming to stop and parking 3 times already. I checked the oil, the level is fine and it's not dirty. I'm not sure if it's related but the car hates to pick up speed also, the rmp gage doesn't really move and neither does the speed, even if I floor it it still takes a moment to catch up. Any one have an idea on what to do or what is going on?

Welcome to the 2nd Gen Neon forum.

Are you hearing any kind of untoward engine noise?
If so, have a trusted Technician connect a real oil pressure gauge to where the oil pressure sender is located on the engine block, so they can measure true oil pressure.

Did the oil pressure warning light come about suddenly after some event, like a oil & filter change?
Are you using the specified oil filter?
Are you using the specified viscosity & service grade engine oil?

I've seen this kind of problem come about from a faulty after market oil filter being used.
I've also seen a failing oil pressure sender cause a similar problem.

Some thoughts for consideration, let us know what you find.

Likely a faulty and/or leaky sensor. Common problem. Something like $18 from Dodge for a new one.
