Wife just got back from a trip and told me that when she was almost home, she heard a clunk noise. When she came to a traffic light the car did not want to move. She had the gas pedal almost to the floor and the car did start to move. She made it home. I got in and put the car in drive and it was like it was in neutral. I then put it in reverse and the same thing only this time there was a whining noise as well. Is my transmission shot or is there another fixable problem

 

Just gone done putting the car up on jack stands. With the car in park both wheels move freely which I'm thinking isn't a good thing. The thing is..my wife drove the car about 10 more miles and it moved along ok but was starting to feel like it was slipping. Now it doesn't have drive or reverse. Just like it's in neutral
