electrical issue
I've never had ANY problems with my '01 until this morning as I was getting in it to go to work. For some reason the dome light decided it wanted to turn on when I tried to remote start it. The clincher is that once I was in and closed the door the light wouldn't go off. I turned the car off and then on again but the damn thing still wouldn't turn off! I checked the fuses (these were all ok) then checked the control dial for the headlights/dome and display lights but everything was fine. To add insult to injury, every time I stuck my foot on the gas the freakin' "lights are on/key in the ignition/door open" warning beep would sound off. I don't know too much about automotive electrical but enough to know that's NOT supposed to happen. Has this happened to anyone maybe living in a colder area.....as it was around 25 degrees this morning at my house. If anyone has some advice to share, please reply! Thanks
I've had this happen to me a time or two. One of the door sensors might be either frozen or dirty. I haven't bothered to check how it works on the second gen neon, but if it's the button style, you might have to stick a hairpin in there and then bend the hairpin so that it lays flush with the doorjamb. This will make the button stay down. If it's the metal plate style sensors, then you need to make sure that the metal is clean. Don't use water to clean it, use a solvent or some CLR. If you use water, it's probably just going to freeze back up on you. If the metal doesn't wash clean, then you might have to use some sandpaper or a wire brush. Beyond that, I'm not really sure what it could be.
