fuel efficiency
honestly i am trying to get better gas mileage. i have to drive on the freeway everyday and going 70 i am running at like 3000-3400 rpm's depending on hills and traffic. is there a way for me to get better gas mileage? i drive an atx 2001 neon. lemme know, thanks.
How many Miles per gallon are you getting right now?
I'll list a few of the items I can think of off the top of my head that could affect fuel mileage:
- change your air filter
- check your fluids
- try some fuel injector cleaner
- make sure your tires are inflated to spec (for most tires this will be 35 psi)

i honestly dont know but it seems like since i have gotten my dual exhaust system put on i have lost a couple and i dont high rev or race around. so i dont know what else to do. i dont think i am getting what i am supposed to.
one thing to keep in mind is that the sticker mileage listed is estimated mpg. My car, 2005 Neon SXT, is listed at 30/36... best i've gotten is 20/30, however, i race around quite a bit, and generally highway/interstate speed for me is 79-90.
Check on everything Whyte told you about, plus also keep in mind:
Extra weight requires more gas to haul around, so if you have a set of golf clubs, or, say, maybe a 50-75lb speaker box in your trunk, that will effect it a little.
Also if you drive very short distances often, before the car has a chance to warm up, you burn 50% more fuel than you normally would when the car is warmed up. When I lived about 2miles away from campus and drove to school every day, I was getting 17-18mpg, which is total crap. Now that I'm back home, and have a 9mi drive to work, it went up a bit, and im sure if i slowed it down a tad, i could get it around 25ish... but i really can't stand driving so slow.
