Default 02 Wheel Questions

Greetings,

I have a stock 02 Neon SXT and it has the alloy wheels on it. I would like to upgrade the stock wheels, I prefer a chrome look with 5 or six spokes, as I'm guessing they would be easier to clean, and keep clean.

Could you please give some suggestions, if I kept the same stock tires (BFG), what size wheel should I get? Also, if I wanted to put on a bigger wheel/tire, what is the largest that I could put on without making any modifications to the car.

I really appreciate your comments and help.

17's are great, 18's will fit, but the ride will suffer. I would go with 17's.

Thanks for your response, so you are saying that I could put a good 17 inch tire on the stock rims, is this correct? Any tire recommendation? Also, I see in the back of magazines where they offer rims with tires, are these good deals? Again, I'm looking for rim and tire suggestions, but I don't want to have to make any major adjustments, just new rims, tires, balance and have them put on the car. Any web sites that you could recommend for rims or tires would be most appreciated.

Thanks again for all of your comments.

alrite well honestly it is going to depend on how much you are willing to spend and to realize that the lower the profile of tire the more your handling is going to suffer and you are going to need to realize that the larger they are theharder they are to take care of. potholes are dangerous and curbing your car can mean the replacement of rims. i like 5 spoke ziggy's but it is all personal preference as to what you like. on my car i have 16 inch chrome rims with a good size tire and it still looks clean. the hubs i believe were 14's so i dint go much higher but it still makes a huge difference in appearance. i will try to post some pix soon and let you see how it looks. good luck and happy hunting. later

Your also forgetting weight added becuase of the larger rim size. However, a nice 17 wont be as much of a loss as an 18 inch wheel. 17's are a fairly common wheel size, and you can pretty much use any tire with it. I have heard good things from the BFGoodrich KDW II's.

Anyways good luck with the wheel problem. Like i said, your trading looks for style (which in all honesty most people dont seem to care about). I myself am looking for a decent 16 (have a few) so the wheels dont look AS rediculously stock and have some style to them as well... but saving some weight in the long run.

If you don't understand tire/wheel sizing, just go to twww.tirerack.com and take a look at their recommendations. You don't have to buy from them, just make sure you stick with the recommended tire sizes. You'll also want to make sure the wheel offset for your new wheels is as close to 40mm as possible (45mm is probably too much, 35mm is probably too little, depending on what size tire you go with). Tire Rack and Discount Tire Direct (www.tires.com) have pretty good prices though, and a decent selection, and a great reputation.

Best of luck!
