the other day i was having a conversation with a friend of mine who claims hes good with cars and we came upon the subject or working on my engine and he swears to me parts from an evo engine would fit on the 2.0 block (with some fabrication assuming) or other parts from the dsm motors... is any of that true and if so what parts might fit? he said the head and factory turbo from an evo would fit and possibly the cams i just want to know. thanks

 

Nothing from an evo will fit ever!! Your friend is total Bull****!! You can use some parts from a DSM, as long as its a 420a motor.

 

from what I understand its physically possible but certain ways the engine flows wont work and certain bolts dont mount the same...Ive seen the swaps done Motor wise but really not worth the effort or wasted money. You have a Dohc im assuming, you can build it to stomp a hole in an evo's pooper easily.

 

Yeah it is possible, but your gonna do more machine work to make say an intake or exhuast manifold fit than its worth, buy the right one for your car. The cam or internals will never fit.

 

what parts from the 420a would fit? and i have a sohc if that helps.

 

just swap the DOHC D4RE from the r/t or sport coupes because they have more HP then the RS eclipses carrying the variation of the D4RE...their version REVERSE flow 420A.

Or swap ACR or magnum type cams...ecu. Or do a complete magnum swap for the horsepower gains. Seeing as how the SOHC magnum is rare...just try DOHC. Or even better try www.modernperformance.com for neon specific bolt ons that will get you some ponies. Also try Howell Automotive.

 

and another question if anyone has installed a bypass valve on a CAI where is the best spot to place it? i know its a random question but i have no idea where to put it

 

In the garbage. Any HP that you will gain with the CAI, you will lose with the bypass. You would have to drive through almost 2 foot of standing water to suck water into the intake. About a foot and a half if you are lowered.

the bypass valve is designed to stop water from entering your engine. Because it takes a LOT of compression to compress a liquid, your engine will probably fail (read: break down violently) before it is able to compress the water. Unless you intend to do lots of driving in LOTS of water, you can dispense with the bypass valve. Realistically, you'll probably lose most if not all of the HP that you'd gain from the CAI. I have seen cars submerged in water up to the bottoms of the windows and still start. They shot water out the tailpipe and appeared to run fine, but I wouldn't recommend doing so until the car has been disassembled and cleaned out properly.
