Default AEM Adjustable Cam Gear

I'm probably going to get a Crane cam 12 and valve springs very soon. Do you all think it would be worth it to get the AEM Cam Gear to go along with it? You do have to take the cam gear off to change the cam right?
I probably wont go to the dyno to tune the cam gear's settings as far as the degrees and adjusting the timing. If there is a recommended setting for the gear I'll most likely use that, if I get it.
I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to order from Modern Performance or Howell.

though I can't offer you any suggestions in the choice of cam gear or settings, I can tell you that the installation of a performance camshaft brings with it the requirement to use premium gas. I might also be inclined to do a PCM upgrade at the same time because a PCM upgrade also requires that you use premium gas.

As for choice between modernperformance and howell, I'd say howell because the owner is a frequent visitor to these boards and he gives back to these boards in the form of great advice and technical knowledge. And the shaft itself is a whole $4 cheaper at Howell

I've ordered stuff from both of them but a very big amount of my stuff was from Howell. As far as the PCM goes, I ordered an AFX Race computer around three months ago. I'm past anxious to get it[sm=bounceybounce.gif]

When you install your cam you need to use the gear to degree the cam. I can get you instructions on that if you have never done that before. Once you have it dialed in correctly you can tune it yourself. If you advance the cam timing by 4 degrees it will lower the RPM range of the cam by 500, and the converse is true. That is how you tune a single cam.

If you ordered a PCM from Howell and chose not to pay the core charge, they wait for you to send your existing PCM in to have it exchanged. You also have to tell them your VIN#. If either of those have not been fulfilled, that could be your problem. I dunno, Gary has offered to look into it for you, so I'm sure you'll get taken care of. Let us know how the cam + gear work out for you. I'd be interested to know how that turns out.

It's nothing like that. I paid the full amount. I also faxed in a typed paper with everything on it.

Gary: I've talked to someone a few times on the phone when I was checking on it. I was told many times that it's a crazy time of the year that's why it's taking so long. They tell me they'll get it to me asap and have told me I was the next computer about 3+ weeks ago when I checked in again. I haven't called in a few weeks b/c I'm trying to be patient. I'll probably call you tomorrow.

I can't check on this until you call. Obviously your order is not listed under "lblackneon" I need your name to even investigate it. This is unusual for us, and I want to make sure you are taken care of quickly, if there is some kind of delay I want to find out why. When there is a problem like this, it helps us eliminate problems in the future.

The industry looses a lot of time in November and December. SEMA we loose over a week the first part of Novemeber, then another week at Thanksgiving, then PRI (the other big trade show) the first week of Decemeber and then Christmas and New Years. Typically the whole industry looses 4 weeks of production the plays catch up through Jan and Feb getting ready for the spring.

It's cool. I just got through calling and he told me to talk to u (Gary). U weren't in so I'm going to call again.
FYI: If you want to know someones name (I don't know if you have to be logged in or not) just click on lblackneon it should show you the persons profile; my name is under there. Like I said, I'll call and discuss the situation with you.
