im going to put turbo on my 03 neon
im going to put turbo on my 03 neon. it has a DOHC head ready for it from the Gen 1 neon but i need to know do i want lower compression or higher compression. i want more boost which makes for speed. can any one help?
Your 2005 SOHC has a 9.3:1 compression ratio from the factory. Wit hthe 1st gen DOHC head on there, you're going to lower compression to around 8.7:1, which is great for a turbo setup. If you're running a decent turbo on there, you'll have no problem making the same 230+ HP that the SRT-4 does, provided you do it right - intercooler, good fuel setup, etc. You could even use the SRT-4 turbo/manifold if you wanted, just need an adapter (Mattdog sells them for $200 or so) and an external wastegate wouldn't be a bad idea until you get the tuning right. A complete SRT-4 swap is cool and all, but it's completely unnecessary and not any more reliable than any other well-thought-out turbo setup.
Best of luck!

Yup. Kevin (friend of mine from Mass.) recently turboed his 2nd gen (2003+ NGC car) with a Magnum head, thicker head gasket for lower compression, and some careful planning. Last I saw he was putting 230ish HP to the wheels (real dyno, not butt dyno), and that's on the stock pistons and rods. He used Matt's adapter for the SRT-4 manifold.
