Default aem bypass valve

Has anyone bought the aem air bypass valve for their neon? If so, do you really have to cut the pipe so it can be installed? Supposidely it has to be installed before the temperature sensor and it also cannot be installed in the pipe after the throttle body. I want to see if someone has installed it before and if theres a way of installing it without cutting the pipe. It would be easy to be like most cars and just switch to short ram but inorder to do that you have to lift the car, take off the tire and what not (im sure all of you know the process), which is basically a pain to do every time the weather decides to change, i didnt have much time to do that all the time so i just went ahead and bought the bypass valve, but now i see that you have to cut the pipe. So if anybody knows anything about this, it would be a lot of help. Thanks.

I have the AEM Cold Air Intake along with the bypass valve. No I didn't have to cut the pipe. Are you having a hard time slipping the bypass valve on? Did u say u have a short ram intake?

Why do you have the bypass valve.....I don't really see a point. I know why its there, but as long as you pay attention there shouldn't be any problems.....

I always pay attention. You all know what purpose it serves anyway. I just think it's better safe than sorry.

There is no reason for a by-pass. You would have to drive through almost 2 foot of standing water to have any problems. You should not have to cut the pipe to make it fit, it should slip right on.

the by-pass will also rob you of some of the extra HP you are gaining by having a CAI.

i just had my CAI installed this winter and the roads have stayed pretty wet from the fact it keeps snowing and melting off. unless you plan on driving during a flood you will be fine. theres a splash guard there (at least there is on mine) which will protect it.

btw do they even make short rams for the regular neons? (i know they have them for the SRT-4) its not like the pipe is that long to begin with.

Well i live in an area where there are a lot of spots on the streets that could gather up water just enought to make little mini rivers and im carefull passing through those when it rains but i know it can reach my air filter on my cai, thats how bad my streets are. Thanks.

Yeah it decreases air velocity a bit...if anyone would need one of these things it would be me. My car sits no more then 4 inches off the ground at all times during the year. I've driven through puddles, snow, slush. No probs so far. I also don't try driving through deep water. I definitely watch what I'm driving through. My filter is right by my foglight. It would probably take me at least 8-10 inches of water to hydrolock my car.
