REAR END SWAP
I have an 05 and would like to loose the drums. I have heard that a earlier R/T can swap with a late model SXT. Anyone know more about it?

the rear end only does about 20% of the braking anyways, and discs will weigh you down more. Drums are lighter than discs are and do the job just fine. If you're looking to make it look nicer, then go for it. It's possible, but isn't worth the effort if you ask me.
Of course the rear only does 20% of the breaking, their primary purpose isn’t stopping the car. We have rear breaks because we need control. If we didn’t have them, we would just swap ends every time we got the brakes hard. I am not to concerned about the 10-15lbs or so per side I will gain. With the added control and stopping distance, the added wait will be negligible. I am most interested in the 45 or so feet I (or my wife) will be able to stop our Neon. Disk are a much more efficient breaking system. Drums are plane ole' outa date, I assume the only reason carmakers still use them is for the cost savings. Look at every high end or even middle of the line auto. Won’t see drums on a real car like a BMW, Porsche, or heck, even the SRT-4 Has all wheel disk. I am merely looking to decrease the overall stopping distance and increase the amount of control under hard braking.
If you don't mind going to the junkyard you can try to find a junked SRT-4 and steal the rear brakes off of it. Just replace the brake pads and you should be fine. If you need to, you might have to replace the rotors as well. If you want brand new parts, talk to the guys at Howell Automotive for the parts you need. Link Here. They're a cool bunch of guys and should be able to tell you everything that you need. You should also be able to find the parts locally at NAPA, Part Source, Autozone, Mopac, etc.
Thats what i was thinkin, Thanks for the info? Know anybody who has done it.. i imagine its just a strait swap, probably have to replace the hubs. I'll give those guys a ring, maybe they can provide some in depth information.

Good news i work at Auto Zone and have done some research cause i want to do the same, and actually our part numbers are the same for the hubs with all the 2nd Gen Neons even the SRT-4 all you would need to hunt for are the brake caliper mounts and stuff like that Auto Zone can get you almost everything that you need except that and if you get a repair manual you can get a pretty good picture on how to do it. Wanna know more cool stuff the rotors on a 00 plymouth neon lx are the same as on a 2005 srt 4 ha ha fun stuff. even the shocks, and struts share the same part number, the only diff is the motor, (duh) tranny, radiator, radiator mounts, master cylinder, seats, (front) body panels, (duh) and a few other minor details

Difference in braking distance from 60-0 is more like 5 or 6 feet, not 45 feet. And there really isn't any more control either, since they use the same proportioning valve for both setups. I've driven both back-to-back, it's not enough to notice even under extremely hard braking in turns. Still, maintenance is tons easier on discs than drums, particularly if you've lived a while in an area where they salt the roads (like New England, where the car spent 6 years or so...). That's reason I'm still running the factory drums in back after 240k miles... The other reason is I'm 4-lug, and all discs are 5-lugs on Neons, otherwise I'd swap in a heartbeat (just for the maintenance aspect).

Neons are a ****ing joke. They put drums on there for a reason, they don't have enough power to get them going fast enough for rear disc brakes to be efficient. Also take into consideration with this swap a different proportioning valve. Definatley a waste of money, time, and metal. You are a waste of space and so are all neons.
