headers..
I want to know because i found some guy that is selling some headers off a first generation sohc, but what i want to know if its the same engine as the motor in the second generation, so i could be able to install the same headers on the second generation.
I'm going to clarify here, because what I said apparently wasn't clear enough for some people (not anyone that posted here).
Headers do not cause damage to downstream components.
Installing a header will not destroy your cat, it will not render your muffler useless, it will not cause your piping to melt, it will not obliterate your oxygen sensors.
It's just a better designed exhaust manifold, that's it. But... nearly all headers are going to be longer than your stock exhaust header, which means that some of the piping must be cut to fit, and nearly all of them that I've seen will include the proper adapter to weld on where you cut (mine, for example, is a 2-bolt flange).
The "long-tube" designs are long enough that they will not fit with the stock catalytic converter in its stock location.
Moving or removing the catalytic converter is a U. S. Federal offense.
No state/county/city/trailer park in the Union can tell you it's legal to move or remove the cat.
Replacing the stock exhaust manifold with a header will void that portion of your factory warranty, and possibly any warranty on the engine, even if it's installed by the dealership.
So if you consider that "causing damage", then yes, it does.
Again, headers do not cause damage to downstream components, it will not destroy your cat, it will not render your muffler useless, it will not cause your piping to melt, it will not obliterate your oxygen sensors
It means that if you ever want to take the car in for warranty work, or sell the car as stock, you'll have to replace that portion of piping when you put the stock exhaust manifold back on.
My apologies if that wasn't clear the first time.
