Default Tachometer

Hello,

I'm a happy owner of a Dodge Neon SE 2005. I would love to have a tachometer installed but since I don't really know much about cars, I'm seeking help.

I found on the web that getting tachometer to work is as simple as splicing two cables together... but it sounds too simple... Could anyone summarize for me the installation process, or maybe point me to some website that has instructions?

Also, how acurate would an aftermarket tachometer be?

Thanks in advance!

I double that question, and i also want to add another question. Is there certain tach's for certain cars or applications, or will any tach fit any car? thanks.

Actually, your better off finding an SXT cluster and swapping it in...it would look the best and be way easy to install since its "Plug and Play".

So even if the previous sxt cluster was for an automatic, would it be able to easily install on my manual trans and be able to read the rpm's and all its other little functions? thanks.

I believe you have to have a tach driver to make a after market tach work.

not hard at all, just find a place to mount it and hook up four wires, as long as you get a tach with a two cylinder rating it is not hard at all, you can hook it right to the wire coming off of the coil for the rpm reading, and the positive and negitive, and the one for the light to light it at night not to bad at all accually nothing a pair of wire cutters, screw drivers and some soder and sodering iron can not do....about an hour max.....

good luck

ps it is alot eaiser to do if you have a tach with a two cylinder rating on it, if you get one with a 4 6 and 8 cylinder only it will only read at half of the real rpms, then you have to get a tach adapeter, i have one from sunpro and it works great!!!!

Yes they will fit...the dash is exactly the same so everything will hook up perfectly...
