Default Swapping out my matic for a manual???

I currently have a the 3-speed auto tranny in my 2000 Neon but I am considering swapping it out for a 5-speed manual from a SXT or something. For one I really dont like automatics and would really like my car to be a manual(even tho I dont know how to drive with one yet). Also I do a lot of freeway driving and would like to get a little better milage as well along with having some control in the winter time when we get 8ft of snow on the ground. Which leads me to my questions. First, would a 5-speed Neon tranny be a direct bolt on from the automatic? Also how long/difficult would it be to swap out the tranny considering Im taking out the old one and putting the new one in? Bolting in the new trans probably isnt to difficult but what Im worried about is the shifter and the clutch pedal, how hard would that be to install? Also I plan on using a SXT gage cluster if I end up doing this so will the dealership be able to flash my cars milage onto the new cluster? Do you think this can be done within one day with 3 guys working on it? One more thing, how heavy are these transmissions and will I need a hoist or any special tools for this job? Thanks for your time.

Hey Topher, I am also curious about a auto to manual tranny swap. This is something I will definatly do if my auto ever fails me. From all of your questions the one I can answer is the Odometer. I recently put an 04 cluster in my 01 and the dealer said that they don't do the programming of the odometer. They order all odometers pre-programmed from a private company. Unfortunatly they wouldn't give me the contact info for that. So, the dealer said to just leave my odometer the way it is.

to be honest its to much time/money/work. i would try to sell it and buy a standard. its the best and easiest route to go.
