Default speed and tach readings

I have a 2002 neon sxt with 2.0 motor with 4 speed auto transmission. I was watching my tachometer at highway speed the other day and notice at 2000 RPM my speed was shown on speedometer to be about 53 mph. Is this right ? It almost seems as if I could use another shift at this point . Anyone else care to compare similar vehicle and readings ?

No. I have the original window sticker, as i bought this car off lease that my daughter had. It is equipped with the 4 speed automatic. I was just wondering if I was indeed in 4th at highway cruising. I want to add that I didn't drive this car much when she had it even though it was in my driveway all the time. I asked her about the readings and she said she never paid attention to those kind of things.

theres probably nothing wrong with that i have an 04 and i can be in 4th at like 45mph. if you hit the gas it will downshift but it is normal to have a low rpm its better for gas milage

Yes I know that the lower Rpm is good. I was just comparig my 1996 Ford Taurus readings with the Neon. The Taurus is almost 60 MPH at 2000 Rpm, even better than the Neon. The Taurus probably has better gearing in overdrive (4th gear).
