Default Worth Saving?

Hi Folks. I have a 1998 Neon with 125,399 miles on it. It had 39,000 when I bought it in December of '01.

Here's my problem...

A few days ago, it died in a parking lot and I had it towed to Firestone where they said the problem may be electrical as when they went to crank it up, smoke came out of the steering coloumn and they thought it was an short in the system.

Over the last year I've noticed the speakers going-on and off and the a/c dying ( just the compressor not working ).

Any advice before I start trying to repair it? Thanks!

Ok. Cool. What do you think a dealer would charge for repairing?

Electrical problems can be the most annoying and time consuming to find, as well as sometimes being very costly. If you have the right tools you can do it yourself or there are shops that specialize in car electrical and would be your best bet.
