Your best bet is to try and contact nicks2kes or wait for him to chime in, he did the total SRT-4 swap into his 01 Neon so he's the man to talk to on the matter for first hand experience.

Hello. I am new, too, and I have almost the same question as Dragit. In my case, I have a 2000 Neon ES (2nd gen) w/ manual transmission @ 45,000 miles. I am the original owner. I have been thinking of getting a turbo and intercooler installed, but it looks like swapping my old engine w/ an SRT-4 engine would be cheaper and healthier, assuming this kind of swap is possible. I am not even sure if the SRT-4 engine will directly fit to the original engine mounts, or if a modification will be needed. Once a Dodge salesman told me that although an SRT-4 looks very similar to the 2.0 liter Neons, its drivetrain and chasis are very different. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

I will greatly appreciate any answers, information, advice, or related website links on this subject. Thanks a lot!

Cheaper, no, better, yes! But you will basically need to buy a totalled srt-4 and replace anything and everything connected to the engine...your looking at anywhere from $3k-$6k foir a job like this. The chasis between the SRT-4 and regular Neon are exactly the same, but the drivetrain is different in areas, which is why it is best to simply by a wrecked srt and use all the parts from it to compelte thejob.

greetings, youre head is definitly pointing in the right direction as far as the amount of money you would spend trying to juice the sohc to make the SRT 4's h.p numbers. Now as far as your swap is concerned, it should go pretty smoothly as the SRT-4 is based off of the 2nd gen. neon platform ( If you tore off everything that would come off and got it to its shell, you would not know the difference ).
things you may want to consider changeing or upgradeing:
1. The ****-ant suspension and steering systems are probabley not up to the task of handeling the added weight and power youre goins to throw at them.
2. Transmission- definitly worth replacing as the SRT-4 uses a NVG T850 transaxle, also found in the p.t curiser turbo.
3. Bigger brakes- definetly worth it as going really fast can also start to suck-*** just as fast if you cant stop!
4. Engine bay wiring harness and ecu- this is painfully obvious, anyone who cannot see why should step away from the tools, stop daydreaming and close your hood, as the death of your car has already been foretold. obviously.
5. Last but not least, change the fuel pump(as you will need a stronger pump for the turbo application), a rising-rate fuel pressure regulator, and the exhasut system must also be changed, the SRT-4 uses a different system in regards to being turbocharged.

That being said, i wish you the best of luck on your swap and hope it goes off without a hitch, especally if you have an STR-4 donor car because it would literally be a plug-and-play application!

Just for the hell of it, here is everything you need to do the swap succesfully and completely!

[ul][*]Engine and Tranny[*]Complete Engine Wiring Harness [*]Complete Engine Bay Wiring Harness [*]Power Steering Pump, lines, and cooler [*]Clutch master and slave cylinder [*]Clutch/Brake Pedal assembly [*]Intercooler Piping [*]Intercooler [*]Radiator Hoses [*]Tranny, Upper and Lower Motor Mounts (the holes are larger on the the upper and lower mounts for larger bolts and the tranny mount is completely different) [*]SRT PCM (wont' need the bracket with 03+) [*]Axles (and half shaft if it isn't on the engine) [*]Coolant Bottle [*]Fuel Line from tank to engine bay [*]Fuel Pump [*]Flex Fuel line from solid fuel line to fuel rail [*]Short evap hose that comes from the purge valve [*]All vacuum lines and the 3 selonids [*]o2 Sensors [*]Turbo Housing + o2 Housing [*]Lower Control Arms (they're stronger yet the same in shape) [*]Sentry Key Module + Key that matches the PCM VIN number. [*]Radiator (aren't totally sure if this is an absolute need) [*]Radiator Fans (it's a dual fan setup) [*]Shift Cables
[/ul]

Some things that would be good to upgrade...

[ul][*]SRT Power steering rack (it's shorter) [*]Knuckles [*]Flexiable Brake Lines [*]Calipers [*]Rotors[*]SRT Struts
[/ul]
