Default Buying a used 03 Neon

Hi everyone,

I may be a new member to the neon community soon. I want to buy my neighbour's 03 Neon. Although, here in Canada the 2nd gen neon's are actually called a "SX 2.0"?

I was hoping you could give me suggestions on what are the problem areas and what to look for when buying a used 03?

Also.. was hoping to get some feedback on if I'm getting a good deal or not. Here's some info on the car:

-2003 Dodge Neon/SX 2.0
- From the outside the car looks great. No major scratches/dents, but the car has been sitting for the last 6 months so it needs a wash badly.
- 43,000kilometers (about 28,000 miles)
- Sport package? Has alloy wheels, AC, Power door locks, power windows, Factory CD player.
- Totally stock, still rolling on factory rubber.
- Interior looks good, but could also use a cleaning. Cloth seats.
- Comes with a set of studded winter tires. Havn't seen them, but I imagine they have decent tread life left.
- Netotiated purchase price of $8000CDN (about $7000 US)

I understand these cars came with a factory 7 year/115,000Km (80,000 miles?) powertrain warranty. Does anyone know if this warranty is transferable? And if so, do I need to do anything to trasfer the warranty over to my name?

Thanks!

The warranty is transferable, but you have to pay a $50 transfer fee...the price is good, I paid roughly $9.4k (with tax and title) for my 2003 R/T when it had 28,xxx miles on it. So yeah, i think your getting a good deal, for a good car. There arent any majpor problems that I'm aware of for the 2003 model year, so you should be good on all fronts, just have it checked by a trusted mechanic to be sure, but i dont see you having any problems with this car.

Good luck with the buy, and welcome to the Neon community!

So where do I go to transfer the warranty? Do I just walk into the dealership with proof that I now own the car?

You, along with the current warranty owner have to go into any Dodge dealership, just tell them you want to transfer the extended warranty...the current owner will sign it over, then you'll sign and write a check for $50 to the dealership. You'll need to have ID with you, and i cant remeber if you need the registration or not, but if you have it, take it with you just in case. And its imple as that.
