hey i'm new to engins, but wanting to learn how to work on them. i have a problem, when the gas gauge goes down then the car starts to die out. when i'm at a full stop then trying to go then it starts to die out. i want to know if it's the fuel pump, or something else. thank you

 

It could be a few things potentially, one of the first things that comes to mind is perhaps your fuel pressure regulator is not working properly, and when you get to idle at a stop the base fuel pressure is dropping off for some reason, and this drop in fuel pressure is making the engine die from lack of fuel (which is very bad)...or you could have a fuel pump thats about to die, i'm sure theres some other possibilities, i just cant think of them a the moment!

 

could it been the idle sesnor going out or something major?

 

definately check your fuel pressure, that should give you a good ides of wether it is fuel related. If you constantly run your car low on gas you may have burned you fuel pump up.
