when it starts bouncing alot you need to replace them.... when you lower a car you change the operating range of the struts and you may wear them out faster, most reputable companies that sell lowering springs will offer lowering shocks as well. I say when the time comes, upgrade to some adjustable shock for lowered cars. But till then, just use what you got.

Ive had my car lowered on stock struts for almost six months now, nothing has gone wrong yet, but i knew when i lowered it that they could go at any time...just be sure you have money available so when they go, you can replace them. The plan is to buy the Eibach Pro-Street coilovers or Ksport when the time comes, but until then i'm content with stock struts that could blow at any time...

yeah, springs of any kind can eventually wear out... but it takes a good long time. Also depends on what kind of driving you do, what kind of load weight you have in the car, etc, etc... I've got an 1981 chevy pickup with the stock springs still in it, and they seem to do just fine. Best way to check if they are wore out is to check the ride height. Stock springs shouldnt differ to much from the original specs. If you lower it, bounce it up and down a couple times after you first put them it so all the suspension parts can settle, then measure the height and write it down for later. Then you can periodically check it for sagging. But make sure you have the same amount of air in your tires every time you check. But i honestly wouldnt worry about it unless you have the car for a REALLY long time.
