Hey guys, a friend of mine just bought a 2001 Auto Transmission Neon. The speedometer doesn't work, but that's fixable. The real problem that I'm having is that it doesn't want to shift properly, so it revs high for a long time before it realizes that it's time to switch gears. Is this a sensor problem or is it mechanical? Can anyone offer up a possible cause? If I don't get this fixed soon, he's going to end up selling it.

The car runs fine, it just stays in second gear much longer than it should. I drove the thing myself and it runs great aside from the gearing problem, and the speedometer not working.

Could be that the 2 problems are related. The vehicle speed sensor perhaps?

 

hmmmm, we've got a durango here in the shop with the same problem. It had our trans tech stumped for a while, he couldnt find a thing. I think he got it nailed like yesterday, i'll ask tomorrow and let you know what he says.
