Best Performace Spark Plugs?
im lookin into replacing my spark plugs and wires, what is the best brand as far as spark plugs that i can get and prices? best brand as far as wires and how much? how often should i replace them?

I bought a set of Bosch Platinum +4. They work pretty good. I'm going to be honest, the thing I liked best about them is that you never need to gap them. Just put them in and your set. As far as prices, I forget exactly how much they were, but it's just four sparkplugs, it doesn't make much difference, not like if you had a V 12 or something.

I use the Denso Iridium plugs...but before i switched i was using the stock Champions, the car seems to idle better and "run" a litle smoother, but i havent noticed anything beyond that. As for the Platinum plugs, i've never heard anything good about them being used on a Neon, something about the platinum not holding up and the spark plug falling apart and causing a lot of trouble...
I replace my spark plugs every 15k now, but i still havent gotten around to changing wires or coil pack yet, because their both still in good shape and doing their job.

Good 'ol copper plugs of your favorite brand would be fine. Iridium or Double Platinum are fine as well. The benefit of later choice is longer life. That is about it.

About the Platinum plugs not working well in a Neon, an internal combustion engine is an internal combustion engine. The Neon's engine doesn't have some sort of special platinum-plug-killing part, so anything about platinum not working well is probably some rumour heard from some guy who didn't know much about engines.

I obviously dont know from experience with the platinum spark plugs, but from what i read it has nothing to do with the combustion engine (obviously, since its just a combustion engine), but it has to do with the type of "Waste-Spark" ignition system the Neon utilizes...here is the type of thing i keep hearing about the ignition system and using platinum plugs...
On the double tower coil systems, i.e. #1 & #4 and #2 & #3, when the spark is fired, one spark is fired from top electrode to center electrode and the other one is fired from center electrode to top electrode. the center to top spark will actually take some platinum electrons with it every time the spark arcs. Over time the platinum electrode will become depleated and increase the gap of the plug. There will be a small amount of platinum on the top electrode.
In engines with waste spark ignition systems stems from the tendency of
electrode metal to get transferred depending upon the polarity (direction
of current flow) of the spark. In waste spark ignition systems, 1/2 of the
plugs always see reverse polarity sparks. Given the very narrow platinum
center electrode of the Bosch Platinums, performance will be degraded more
significantly when reverse polarity sparks will cause material to be
transferred from the large ground/outer electrode onto the narrow platinum
center electrode's exposed end surface

You know I couldn't tell you to be honest. The car doesn't really get a whole lot of miles on it, mostly driving around town and such. Got it new in March 2001 and its got about 78000 kms (49000 miles) on it, so about 10 000 miles a year, had them for maybe 3 or 4 months? Probably 4000 miles tops. The engine ran a lot smoother after installing them, haven't noticed any change in that yet, haven't pulled them out to have a look at them though, I might do that if I've got some free time.
