I've heard the platinum don't last as long in the Neon, but if they're turning black it is most likely not a problem with the plugs, but rather something with the engine itself.

I obviously dont know from experience with the platinum spark plugs, but from what i read it has nothing to do with the combustion engine (obviously, since its just a combustion engine), but it has to do with the type of "Waste-Spark" ignition system the Neon utilizes...here is the type of thing i keep hearing about the ignition system and using platinum plugs...

On the double tower coil systems, i.e. #1 & #4 and #2 & #3, when the spark is fired, one spark is fired from top electrode to center electrode and the other one is fired from center electrode to top electrode. the center to top spark will actually take some platinum electrons with it every time the spark arcs. Over time the platinum electrode will become depleated and increase the gap of the plug. There will be a small amount of platinum on the top electrode.
In engines with waste spark ignition systems stems from the tendency of
electrode metal to get transferred depending upon the polarity (direction
of current flow) of the spark. In waste spark ignition systems, 1/2 of the
plugs always see reverse polarity sparks. Given the very narrow platinum
center electrode of the Bosch Platinums, performance will be degraded more
significantly when reverse polarity sparks will cause material to be
transferred from the large ground/outer electrode onto the narrow platinum
center electrode's exposed end surface
Oh and do your plugs look like this?

What I meant about it being a problem with the engine was that he was possibly getting carbon build-up or something similar on the plugs, and nothing was wrong with the plugs themselves.

And it very well could be carbon build-up, i just figured i might as well repost the info and he can decide for himself whether he wants to stick with the platinums or not...just giving him another perspective to look at.

On the plug i posted the platinum electrode has erroded...which is very very bad. Refer to my other post on why it would happen with platinum plugs...i suggest switching to Champion Copper plugs or NGK Iridiums (or if you want to spend the money Denso Iridiums).

OK once again Bosch Plugs are not bad for Neons but Bosch Platinum in any current form as admitted by Bosch are NOT for DIS ignition systems. Which is the stock ignition system for a Neon. So why oh why do we keep beating this poor dead horse. Bosch says don't try, it is not compatible, but time and time again......

Copper core, Double Platinum (DIS compatible with platinum on center and ground electrodes), Iridium with or without platinum.
The above list will work.
