Default Starting issues

I can't figure this out, recently, within the last 2-3 weeks my car has had some problems starting up. It generally ocurrs after it has rained, when it has been doing a lot of lately. Anyhow when you turn the key, all it does it make a whine noise basically (doesn't turn over). If you turn it to the off position after it does that it will start up no problem. It does it sometimes even if it hasn't rained. It seems to be getting worse. I'm not sure if my battery is taking a poopy or what. Maybe I have a bad ground. I doubt its my alternator because I wouldn't have been driving it this long the way it is if it had been that. Another thought is that maybe my starter is taking a dump. Any ideas? But the car runs fine when its running, runs well. Has plenty of power, acceleration, etc. Just something starting related is f'ed up.

I would assume its electrical. moisture and electricity can play funny games. If the batt. connections look good check the connections at the starter.

Checked battery connections, no corrosion whatsoever on them. I'll have to see if I can take a look at the starter tomorrow to see if I can figure out if anything looks out of the ordinary. A ground on the left hand side, by the top motor mount looks to be corroded slightly (not terribly bad, but I suppose I could clean it and see if that changes things). Think that could cause it to do this? Otherwise if I don't see anything blatently wrong tomorrow I will drop it off at the shop and let them mess with it because there I am not good at electrical stuff.

Sounds like the starter might be crapping out.

Well........I was right. The starter was going on it. I should have just replaced it myself. Well, I actually haven't driven the car yet (borrowed my dads PT cruiser for a few days while it was at the shop), but they said it was the starter. I would have done myself if I could have tested it and determined that was the problem, but I'm not that skilled. Oh well...I had them check a bunch of other things while it was there, so my car should be running like a champ again. For those wondering....the starter was around 95 dollars....then with labor, however long it took them to check all the things I asked for and the starter it was about the same in labor. [:@] Oh well...guess as long as it is working fine again I won't complain too much.
