Yeah cops are most of the time unfair to nice rides . I got pulled over 3 times in one small otwn for having a srt exhaust on my sxt . I loved the sound but cause of them I had to get a glasspack muffler installed to tame her down now they still give me the look but they cant pull me over cause I have a muffler now . Hey they even pull over srt4s with stock exhausts.

 

it is just to bad that when you want to put mods on your car you have to worry about all this, has any of these cops driven by harleys latly, those things are so damn load it is a joke! i also think that the tint law is dumb to an extent to, i understand why they have the law but they need to ease off that, that is why my windows do not have tint, i have a role cage in my car......i am just waiting to get pulled over for that to.............lol

 

As a law enforcement officer, first sign the ticket and don't give the cop any lip. Do your research (online sources etc) then bring the paperwork to court with you. If you take it to trial, the cop has to show up and give his side of the story then it's your turn. If your lippy, the cop will tell the judge so. If your aftermarket parts are legit with the law, the judge will sway in your favor, if your lippy, it will tick the judge off too! Also here in my jurisdiction, if the cop don't show up, it's dismissed.

Check all of the laws, local, state etc and check to see if your parts are CARB compliant, or compliant with your state and do not take off your Cats, it's for your FEDERAL emissions and illegal to mess with that.

Don't make yourself a target, if you run around in a low gear to get that puppy sounding nice, you may raise the eyebrows of the cops and give you a reason to pull you over. About tinting, check your laws. Most cops go on a case by case, if they can't see you, it's bad, a light tinting is better than an all dark one. All dark tinting is an officer safety thing with us and if we can't see you we get jumpy (a few cops have been shot on routine pullovers who couldn't see the person inside)

Take it to court, the cop may not show up on your ticket and you can ask for a dismissal, then don't make yourself a target and please don't get lippy with cops, they hate that and will show up on your court date.

i completely agree nappers, but what i do not agree with is why are the import/sport compact seem to be the target? i do not race in town i got rid of the exhaust for that reason, i feel like i am getting harassed because i drive a nice car in town, i do not bolive in the bodykits or any of that i like smooth and sleek looking cars, i do not understand just because my car looks fast does not mean that i should get pulled over because of the intercooler in the front or how my exhaust sounds, i take my car to the track to race and it seems like most cops think that all sport compacts are a target, any thoughts nappers? any thing that i can do to my car to make it not stick out so i am not getting pulled over for hight of the headlights, snow on my licence plate, and other misc. tickets. ecause as a driver it is a pain to get pulled over and harassed just for wanting my car to look different then the rest of the neons in my town??

 

I can only say that the guys that drive those cars in my town are punks (for real not just targets) and they lip off and then the cops find a way to pull them over and ticket them. I.E. see if car is too low, lights, tinted windows, tires sticking out etc.

I would make sure the tires are of stock height or find out how your speedometer works with the tires so you know how fast your going, use your signals when changing lanes, complete stops, don't follow too close, no music blaring out of the car. I like nice stereos but don't crank it while in town in my Neon or Yukon, I turn it down at stop lights and stop signs, but crank it while on the back roads, be courteous then maybe they will leave you alone when they find out your not one of those "punks".

Other than that, if they keep harrasing you, file a complaint. It pisses the cops off but then you state your just a hard working joe and want a nice looking car to not look like the rest.

thanks alot nappers, i put alot of money into my car to keep the sterio sound in it, dynomat, so as long as my windows are up no one car hear it, when i am in town i try to keep it down and now with my new exhaust it is only loud when i get on it, witch is really nice, no more fart can.....lol as for my speedo it is also correct but i have 17s on it and it is slammed, but i am going to just go with a 2 in drop spring in the winter, so maybe that will help with that problem, i am trying to build the car so i will not have problems and every problem that i seem to have i change, but then they will find something else to complain about, so if i get pulled over for something stupid i will do like you said and file a complaint, thanks alot nappers!!!!

 

Use common sense. If you're driving in the city, drive like the car behind you is a cop.....it may well be, an off duty officer can mess with you as well as an on duty officer. I normally don't run down road rats if I'm not in uniform, but I cell phone the officers who are running the "road rage" cars to let them know of the obvious idiots on the roads...............
