ok so here's what happened. a couple weeks ago, i got in my car and started driving down my street. my gas pedal had always stuck just a tiny bit but would always pop back right away. however, this time my pedal stuck, it didnt come back. ive never been in this situation so i was panicing and didnt know what to do. so i used the e-brake until i got the car to stop moving and turned off the engine. since i was just down the street from my house, i figured id try to get it home and fix it there.
this is where i made a really dumb move. since i was still just kind of freakin out,i made a dumb desicion and figured id turn on the car and put it in drive as fast as i could and hold the brake as hard as i could so i could get it home at a reasonable speed. so i turned it on and even though i shifted from park to drive as fast as possible, it still reved to about 3 or 4000 rpm in park b4 going to drive. the car jerked REALLY hard and started going. im not sure what it is that i messed up, but ever since then, any time i start from a stop, the car starts shaking REALLY hard and makes a LOUD grinding noise. it also does a quick shake and grind when the car shifts gears (automatic). a friend said it sounds like the gears arent grabing or something.
i dont know a whole lot about what might be going on. what do you all think? and how sohuld i go about fixing it? appx cost?

 

Sound like a trip to the trans shop.

a shop might be able to rebuild it.....but that all depends on if you recked anything major inside

Sounds like the trany has been damaged.

Initialy Id say the throttle body or cable was sticking. But now there more going on.

 

ouch ive accidentally done that once. i was messin around with my friend and i put it to neutral at a light and revved it and then i was going to take off at the light but stupid me forgot to put it back in drive so i hit the ras revved up the engine panicked and then put it into drive. luckily i had no major damage. sorry you werent a lucky but yea you will prob need a trans rebuild. you could try going to a junkyard and getting an auto trans from there it might be cheaper

 

that's what I was thinking... until he said something about grinding and such...

 

thanx for the help. the junkyard i go to has been pretty picked over on neon parts so i guess that means having the rebuild done. any idea how much that may cost me?

 

There's a good reason you can go from Drive to Neutral without even pushing in the button, STUCK THROTTLES! Should have gone to N, turned car off and then fixed the problem before restarting the car.

You deserved to ruin it with the kind of thinking you applied.
