Default Carbon fiber hood Question.

I bought a carbon fiber hood, and when it arived it came damaged, there are two spots where the gel coats is cracked, it looks like it was hit hard in the two spots and the gel coat just kinda flaked off, the carbon fiber is still in perfect shape, does anyone have any ideas on what to do to fix this? Will filling it in with clear coat make it look better? I dont want to fuss around with sending it back and waiting for a new one, they said they would give me money back on it as is. Any help would be great.

you will have to be careful if you decide to fill it with clear coat since you will just have to fill that area...otherwise you will have a divot that you will be able to see.....what about filling it and then getting some of the hood painted???

Well yea, i could fill it and paint it, but when i bought it i was going for not only its light weight, but i like the way it looks, so painting it would defeat the perpouse of spending 550$ dollars on it. I coulda bought a fiber glass hood and painted that. I just want to know if there is anyway i can make the gell coat look better then it does.

Is the car going to be a show car? if not just leave it alone. i would not clear coat it, when carbon fiber is made it is accually a gelcoat that is on top, so gelcoat it then try to clear over it and blend it into the hood, depending on how bad the crack or dent is i would just leave it as is if you are not willing to paint it. it is not easy to get them to look right. i had a friend that had the same problem and he painted the outside of the hood and left the middle carbon fiber, it looked pritty good, so depending on there the crack is you can do something like that and just fill the spots that are bad. me personaly if you spent that much money on a hood, send it back and get one that is not messed up

im completely in agreement with mikey. If you spent the money on something (such asm my throttle body if you guys can remember), you shouldnt have to live with the couriers stupidity! Call up the place you got it from. CF is really hard to fix once dented/cracked (unlike fiberglass). So, IMHO, you should REALLY either get your money back or get a new hood. The courier will probably be responsible (will say the place you ordered it from) but let the place you ordered it from know anyway.

If worse comes to worse you can just paint over it.[8D]

anyways, goodluck getting it fixed.

well good news guys, i called and complained, the shipping insurance is covering it so they are sending me a new hood, and not only that, i get to keep the old one too, so if anyone is interested in a slightly damaged carbon fiber hood, it is the evo style. I got one!
