Default Automatic Racing

I heard when you race w/ a neon, your supposed to start off in 1st gear, get it up to 6 rpm's and then put it into 3rd. Is this true?

In a race, you need to shift on the redline. 6,000 rpm is way past the redline on a neon and and is considered an over-rev.

Actually the redline is 6,500 rpm and yes you leave it in first but it will shift in 1 from 1st to second gear to third and fourth so I just leave it in when I'm racing but thats the only time.

I'm bad, I shift my auto all the time. I've found when I autocross I use 1st and 2nd all the time. I've had the pan off twice in the 4 yrs I've had the car. Once a few months after I got it to put a new filter in it and the second time to put a performance valve body in it. Both times it had no burned oil, and the filters looked great. But every one is right it is hard on them. And unless you keep up on them it could bite you. Just remember if you are going to play, you are going to pay.

That's why I drive a neon and not a focus, lol. But seriously yea I know it hurts them and when I'm doing 70 on the highway and slap it into 1st I know its not good but by the time something happens I'll be out of college and have money so I can afford a new car and doing something special with my neon. IF something decide to go wrong tranny wise.
