it looks like were about 50/50. I have nothing against the srt4 I think dodge had a great car with that. but Im still not swayed im going to stay with my fully built motor over an srt4. I can get it faster for less money and if money wasnt a factor than i would go srt4. but if we were rich kids we wouldt be driving neons but then again we wouldnt know how to use a wrench ether. thanks for all the responses

Yep, money is the reason I have an SXT and not an SRT. At least when I got my neon money was an issue, not so much anymore. I have srt turbo parts sitting here and I'm stuck between doing the srt turbo on my 2.0 or find a motor and just do a swap. I've found them around my area for decent price and from what my friend says it would be easier to swap my motor rather then install a turbo. I have to do some more reading before I go any further though. I'm not interested in selling my ride though.

me and da2123 are having a debate. would you rather for $21000 you can have a neon sxt a howell engine(ported and built head and cam forged pistons 8.6 comp) and a 20g turbo borlo exaghst boost contolls feul piggyback and a suspension. Or a factory srt4. please help end this dabate. you can also refere to need help thread on the main neon page.
First of all, this is what was being debated...

your just gonna have to get lucky in a junk yard. but there are better ways than to swap an inferier srt4 motor.
The debate was that the SRT-4 engine was somehow inferior. I wasn't debating the cost on building up a $20,000 SXT to getting a stock SRT-4.

Besides I can get a 1st gen neon (the best out there anyway ) and swap in an SRT-4 built motor and crush your SXT Howell Turbo'd motor and still have money to go to the track

the problem is i am still about $1000 short of the price of a new srt4 from my year 03. so I spent less and you wount beat me with a factory srt4. and before you start talking upgrades remember you have already spent 1000 more for the srt4. and money is the factor thats why I stoped it at $21000.

Lets see if I make this more clear....I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT BUYING AN SRT-4 CAR, I WAS REFERRING TO BUYING THE MOTOR AND SWAPPING IT INTO A 1ST GEN NEON.

Is that a little better??

edit*Oh, and still spend about 1/2 of what you did and have better handling and a lighter car.

The DOHC 2.4L engine is capable of putting out more power, so that would be my choice.

I would agree with that. The 2.0 can make gobs of power no doubt. But its just easier with a SRt motor. I don't think theres a lot to debate about that. Think smarter, not work harder.
