$0 mod for those wanting to save on a CAI or Ram intake
Some people may want a CAI or short ram intake but don't have buku-bucks to spend. yea, we would all luv to just be able to run out and buy a AEM or INJEN, but for those who want to try the cheap ones from e-bay, had heard some (myself included) complaining that when u put on a cheap short ram (not sure if this is a problem with the regular long, fender mounted CAIs...)... the throttle body is just kinda hanging in the air. One guy said his rubber boot connecter kept coming off while driving. I saw someone post a diagram from one that had 2 metal brackets that hold up the throttle body, but the cheap ones usually don't come with that.
I have been running fine with a short ram, maybe 1000 miles, no sign of the boot slipping, but wasn't confident. Especially with winter coming, don't want to be under the hood when un-nessasary...so a friend suggested coat hanger wire! it's strong and easy to measure out and just cut, then put loops for the screws! paint black when finished! (just use the bottom 2 airbox mounts, and one screw from each side where the old airbox used to attach)

lol, thats creative, and a funny comment, b/c ironically i know a guy who did somthing like that on a hyundai elantra. Kinda sad the hyundai i mean, cough cough. Yea that works but I have cai off ebay with no brackets and the rubber connectors have never came off and the cai dosn't really need any b/c of the tight angle it stays perfectly still.

You could have also takin some angle iron and made something that looks like its supposed to be there. I dunno Coat hanger and engine never really went hand in hand. But at least it works!!! Hmmmm maybe ill buy that CAI and make a bracket and sell it for 10 bucks..... You gotta link to those CAI's???

I did buy a short ram air from ebay for my 02 SXT. i was very pleased with it. Granted it never game with any brackets, but, like you, i got creative.
Tiewraps... I kept the valve throttle assembly and threaded a tiewrap through on of the bolt holes and threaded the other end through a empty bolt hole on the hood frame. Tighten, then cut. There ya go. Not the filter doesnt rattle against the frame.

anyone have more pics of how the rest of the cia is supported?

the filter is just out of the pic, and it just kinda rests on the fender, wedges right up next to the air 'inlet' where the old stock air-box connected...that's why I wanted a litttle bit of support from something
