I just bought an 00 neon, 5spd,loaded with 60k miles for 5k. Was that a decent deal? Whenever you use the power locks to lock the doors it makes a really weird screatching sound from the pass side rear door. The locks dont do it when you unlock, only lock. Any clues to what this might be? Maybe the power lock motor or solenoid? How hard are these door panels to take off?

 

just checking - did you ever get this one figured out? mine has been doing that for a couple of years now, started with the passenger door (during lock and unclock) and now at least 2-3 doors do it. on occasion the locks will just screech away while i'm driving or parked...lasts for about 30 seconds sometimes out of nowhere. btw, i have a 2000 plymouth neon lx.
just thought i'd check.

I did not replace it yet. Since it is the back door i disconnected it inside the door so I now manually have to lock and unlock that door. It is thelock solenoid that attachés to the latch assembly. I will be replacing it sometime this summer.
