I think he might be talking about the key that has the chip in it. Thetop of the key is greyand has the chip located inside of the grey plastic. I wouldn't think an engine swap would be a problem.

He's talking about the SKIM...if you didnt swap the PCM then you should be fine. But there is no way to disable the SKIM so if the car doesnt start, the SKIM is the reason...

what exactly is SKIM? and my problem is that the engine is not even cranking over.. the starter is not even making that annoying clicking noise... and there is no fuel moving through the fuel rail... but i kinda just remembered i took the fuel pump relay out and misplaced it so i used one from the A/C relay fuse thing... but since i moved that one down and did not replace the relay would that have broken a circuit and prevented anything from working??

The SKIM is the "Sentry Key Ignition Module" or also known as "Sentry Key Immobilizer Module". The grey key has a chip in it...if the car is equipped with a SKIM it will detect this chip and allow the car to start up, if it doesnt detect the key then it will not start at all.

What all did you change during the engine swap exactly? Because the SKIM is mounted on the sterring column so if your car didnt come with one in the first place...you shouldnt be having any troubles. If you used the PCM from the donor car then thats the problem...so I guess it would help to know all the components you swapped??

Actually, according to the dealer, if the key is not a sentry key, the vehicle will start, but will shut itself off within ten seconds, and will not start)even with correct key[sentry]) until dealer does some reprogramming to the pcm. thats what I was told, when I asked what would happen if I started the car with my spare key(the non sentry key just for unlocking the doors).

just put the old ecu back and it should start barring there aint some thing else wrong.
here is how skim works
the key sends the code too the module itsends the signal too the ecu
so ifany one of those 3 are not matching the rest, the car won't start

i swapped engines. and everything plugged right in. one of the harnesses was a pain in the *** to get it right. but i also swapped out the guages for the white face set.... is there a difference between the plymouth harness from 2000 model year to the dodge one from the 2001 model year? bc they looked a little different...but i could be mistaken
