Well the SRT exhaust might be an option, I just need to find one and a mechanic like i said. And I need to get it done soon because I am having trouble accelerating and what not. I am pretty sure it is my cat or fuel filter, so I need to get something done soon. Another question, would driving around with a clogged cat do much damage to the engine? Im not talking about hard driving, just around town? thanks, kevo

you can also go with a cutout...those are awesome and you can find them on ebay for around 120 and up depending on the brand.

Basicly its a Y pipe that hooks up to your exhaust...theres a plate in there some are mechanical some are electric...either way when you hit the lever inside your car you rotate the plate from the cutout to your true exhaust...this blocks your exhaust but opens your cutout...which is DIRECTLY OUT...so if you want no backpressure, extra horses, or the most power out of an exhaust this is a god way to go...then when a cop drives by or emission tests pop up push the lever back and the plate will move back to block the cutout and open up the exhaust agian...cool huh? The only reason i havent bought one is because im afraid it will be too loud and draw to much attention to my street racing ***.. lol

I've heard of others doing this, but I know this makes it reallllllly loud and cops are all over these kinds of things... If you're looking for the sound and a little bit of added power, take the risk...

But I wouldn't...

I dont think the cutout is an option for me. I think that I will either go with the SRT or just gut the cat.

The SRT exhaust on a regular Neon with no catalytic converter is VERY loud, much louder than an upgraded exhaust. The SRT4's are actually slightly quieter than a regular Neon because the turbo actually helps buffet the concussions from the exhaust to mellow the tone out... I wouldn't suggest the straight-through SRT exhaust unlessyou're putting iton an SRT4, or unlessyou like getting pulled over a lot.

It's not loud, but mine is a complete system. Also it has two resonaters on it. And they sound the same to me. If you get pulled over for it then take the cop to court because the SRT's would have to be pulled over to. I've been driving with mine on for almost nine months and haven't had any problems and I have cops right acroos the street from me.

Well the old "rule of thumb" for cops was that if the vehicle didn't have a muffler and it sounded really loud, then it was probably over the db threshold of being legal. Cars like the SRT4 can get away with it because the turbo muffles the exhaust waves just enough to keep it mellow and legal, all in factory packaging. If you found good resonators to quiet down a regular Neon though, then Kudos.

All I know is I tried just a straight pipe, and then just the SRT4 rear section on my car, and I put a muffler on my car the same day. I think every cop in the county heard my car until then. I was shocked at how loud it was really. But I've always been a fan of Flowmaster so it didn't bother me to plug it up a bit.

Like I said the SRT-4 owner wanted it changed so we just took it off and put it on mine. It's the complete system.
